BIOGRAPHY & BACKGROUND

About Dr. Mufizal Aboobucker

Dr. Mufizal Aboobucker, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Politics from Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan, China, under the Chinese Government Scholarship programme.

Dr. Mufizal's teaching and research interests encompass political philosophy, ethics, philosophy of religion, peace studies, Islamic thought, Sufism, comparative philosophy, and contemporary socio-political issues. His interdisciplinary approach integrates philosophical inquiry with practical concerns relating to peace, social harmony, religious coexistence, and intercultural understanding.

For several years, he has been teaching Indian Philosophy, Peace Philosophy, and Gandhian Thought at the Department of Philosophy, University of Peradeniya. His courses examine the philosophical foundations of non-violence, truth, justice, ethical leadership, and peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting their relevance to contemporary society.

A central area of Dr. Mufizal's academic interest is the philosophy and thought of Mahatma Gandhi. He has a deep appreciation for Gandhi's principles of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satyagraha (truth-force), and moral leadership, and is particularly interested in exploring the enduring significance of Gandhian philosophy in promoting peace, reconciliation, social justice, and sustainable development in multicultural societies. His teaching encourages students to critically engage with Gandhian ideas while examining their application to present-day political, ethical, and social challenges.
